Hi! This time, progress was all about expanding more on the story. This devlog’s a bit on the short side since I can’t really show much, but I wanted to update at least. Sorry!
The game’s story will run on a calendar-based system. I wanted to do events that happens around certain months like Christmas, Halloween, and the like, but didn’t want to make content for literally every single day of a year. I ended up deciding to do time-skipping instead, wherein a certain topic/theme/event is focused on for a few days in a month, then once that is resolved, you go on to the next important thing on the next month.
I have major and minor events already listed, but nothing yet about how many days each of them take. I’m limiting myself to have 45 days max though. For the total playtime, I am aiming for around 10 hours. So assuming I use all those 45 days… that’ll be around 15 minutes each day, if I can do… basic math…
I made map layouts for some of the core locations of the game. Right now, there’s 12 planned locations, excluding some houses and buildings that you can enter (which is pretty much their own location as well). Each location is ~8x the work of the last test location I did on average, which is both terrifying and exciting. I want to make more scenes with greenery already…!
Right now, I’m properly listing the main characters and getting references for them and the locations. It’s been fun getting refs for locations, as most of them are loosely based on places that I went to during my childhood. After that, I’ll be listing the minimum things that I need to create in order to have a playable… concept kind of demo with a start, middle, and end. Then I’ll just keep building on that into completion. Yup!
(Huh, this devlog ended up being a little lengthy after all! Good job, 2AM me.)
That’s all for now. Thank you for reading! See you next time.
